The Vaio J has a larger screen than its predecessor, 21.5 inches, with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080, and Sony has added touch capability, said Brian Nolan, Sony's product manager.
It is available for pre-order staring June 8 with shipments expected in July. The starting price is $900.
Nolan said the AIO PC is becoming more of a mainstream product and has a chance to replace the PC tower in many homes due to its small footprint and strong multimedia capabilities. The latest version does not come with a TV tuner; however, Nolan does not see that as a problem since most consumers now view video on their PC off the Web, not from a traditional broadcast location like cable.
The Vaio J has a Blu-ray option and three new software options accessed through three new keyboard buttons labeled Vaio, Assist and Display Off.
The Vaio button launches the PC directly to Sony's Media Gallery. This application allows the user to create up to 21 music channels based on beat, tone, rhythm and other elements. It will also recommend little-used content stored on the PC.
The Assist button launches the Vaio Care technical support function, while the Display Off function disables the LCD without sending the PC into hibernation. |
